A Word on Our Candles…. They’re Not Really Candles.

They’re more like pots of pure skin love, that when lighted and poured will plump your skin and leave it feeling like velvet. The smell is pure Plaisir de Grasse. No fake perfume smell. No fake anything. This is not a prop. This is sensual well-being at its finest. It’s also a great way to up your sex game.

A little backstory. I, Mafalda, love skin. I also love candles. So when I saw massage candles I thought it to be a most perfect pairing.

However, I searched in France, England, Scotland and the US for the perfect formula.  Sadly, nearly all the so-called ‘massage-oil’ candles were little more than props. The liquid felt waxy, smelled false and didn’t leave my skin feeling hydrated at all.

It felt that they were all just gimmicks in the end. A sexy pour, a romantic touch, but in the end not the kind of high-end pure oils that I wanted on my skin. I wanted my skin to feel pampered. I wanted to pour it on to my man’s back and for him to feel it too. There is truly nothing I love more than a fine moisturizer that smells perfect—not too much, not too little—and seeps into my skin flawlessly.

So, we decided to develop our own PDG massage oil candles and not use any of the high-end massage oil candle manufacturers. We sourced and sampled every ingredient. Making certain that they were not only organic, but that they were food grade, sustainably sourced and contained only the best ingredients for your (our) skin.

To that end, we use a cosmetic-grade soy wax, which melts at such a low temperature it’s no warmer than bath water. Pour it on your skin and it absorbs into your pores, especially after a shower. There is no waxy residue.

We added, by hand, raw organic shea butter from Africa.  Shea butter is emollient, meaning it can soak into your skin and create a moisture sealing barrier. Its properties, including stearic, palmitic and linoleic acids strengthen the skin barrier to lock in moisture. Linoleic acid also boosts hydration and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Unlike most nut tree products, shea is very low in the proteins that can cause allergies. It’s rich in antioxidants, Vitamin A, E and F which boosts circulation encouraging faster generation of healthy skin cells.  Shea butter may also help plump your skin. It contains triterpene, a chemical that slows the breakdown of collagen.

Forget that messy large jar of body cream on your next beach vacation. Just pack a PDG votive candle in your overnight travel mag (along with our travel 10 ml sensual oil). Light it after a shower and pour it all over your skin. Shea’s anti-inflammatory properties smoothes redness that comes from getting too much sun and helps treat burns. It’s unrefined which means it won’t clog pores, the way cocoa butter can.

To the wax and the butter, we add oil. Oil is one of my all-time favorite ways to plump my skin, especially when its warmed. There is no smoother way for the moisture to get in and with the wax, lock in, without leaving any oil residue.

Argan first. Argan oil is made from the kernels that grow on argan trees in Morocco. The women there figured out long ago that it protects their skin from sun damage. Thanks to argon’s abundance of vitamin e, which is a fat-soluble antioxidant, it improves water retention in the skin.  It’s antibacterial and has fungicidal properties as well, so it both treats and prevent bacterial and skin fungal infections. Antioxidants are a powerful force when combined with vitamin E, especially when it comes to improving the elasticity of the skin.

Next. Natural Apricot Seed Oil which contains Gamma Linoleum Acid, useful for firming and toning your skin. It also contains Vitamin A and E to soothe and slow down the aging process. It has nourishing properties and an anti-inflammatory effect to soothe eczema. The antioxidants in apricots protect the skin from the effects of free radicals, which can lead to skin deterioration and signs of premature aging.

And then Jojoba Oil.  Its own powerhouse of anti-inflammatory properties helps tame chaffing and chapping, reduce redness caused by drying, ease the effects of eczema and rosacea, and keep skin calm and comfortable. The Vitamin E and B-complex vitamins in the Jojoba Oil help repair skin.

To our blend of essential oils, we add a dark green rosemary Co2 antioxidant which contains over 13% diterpene phenols, an approved antioxidant with anti-inflammatory, anti-aging and anti-microbial effects. According to Cosmetic Science Technology, Rosemary CO2 Antioxidant naturally protects stressed skin against early aging.

So pick up a PDG candle, one for your bathroom and one for your overnight bag (we have the sexiest travel kit on earth!) for romantic massage, dry skin and pure skin gold. It’s all in the ingredients. Sourced and poured by hand.

So take care of you. Light and pour.
